Feasibility Study for the Electrification of a Commuter Train Line
SYSTRA Canada (formerly CANARAIL) was mandated to conduct a feasibility study to assess the value of different options for the electrification of the Agence métropolitaine de transport (AMT)’s Montreal/Blainville commuter train line.
DESCRIPTION
SYSTRA Canada was responsible for the electrification and rolling stock aspects of the feasibility study.
The line to be electrified involved a connection with an existing commuter line and two alternate routes for the connection that had to be evaluated as part of this study. The proposed solutions had to be compatible with the operation of the existing commuter line, already electrified, while minimising the impact of electromagnetic emissions and interferences.
Many rolling stock options were considered, from electric multiple unit trains (EMU) to conventional trains hauled by an electric or a bimodal (diesel and electric) locomotive.
SYSTRA Canada’s mandate also entailed coordinating the work with the teams covering other aspects of the study.
