Rolling Stock and Operations Consulting Services for BHP
CANARAIL (now SYSTRA Canada) is responsible for providing consulting services for the procurement of a fleet of new covered hoppers for the transport of potash in Western Canada.
SYSTRA Canada conducted a scoping study that detailed the different loading and unloading options for the new railcar fleet by benchmarking operations around the world. The report included both car-mounted and wayside mounted systems. Train control and locomotive control systems through the loading and unloading cycle were analyzed as well, along with previous studies. Finally, SYSTRA Canada provided operations consulting.
This was followed with site visits to car builders and suppliers of loading and unloading technology across North America.
Once a solution was agreed upon, SYSTRA Canada wrote the technical specifications for the new potash wagons, while continuing to provide general consultation services to BHP and their subcontractors.
