What our employees say about SYSTRA Canada
Director of Structural Engineering – Rolling Stock
I have had the opportunity to work for SYSTRA Canada and its predecessor for 18 years now. The work is challenging, interesting, rewarding and varied. The company has a great mix of seasoned industry veterans and up and coming impressive young engineers and designers.
A constant in this environment is the unwavering desire by colleagues to help solve problems. We are often faced with innovative challenges and, in my tenure here, there has always been great cooperation to get the job done, coupled with an excellent office atmosphere. As a bonus – best coffee machine of any employer in the Montreal area!
JEAN-FRANÇOIS CASGRAIN, Eng.
Civil Engineer - Transit
Since joining SYSTRA Canada in April 2014, I have been fortunate to be part of a team where everyone brings complementary knowledge and skills and is happy to share them with their colleagues. The projects in which I participated are varied, both geographically (Montreal and surrounding areas, Northern Quebec, elsewhere in Canada, and even in Asia and Africa) and from infrastructure to studies (railways for the passenger transportation and/or goods, railway stations, crossings, maintenance workshops).
If you join SYSTRA Canada, you will be involved in interesting projects, you will perfect your knowledge and contribute to the development of a growing business sector.
THOMAS HEWITT, Eng.
Project Manager - Rolling Stock
I came to SYSTRA Canada with five years of experience in the domestic railway market, a passion for transportation, and an interest in international travel and business.
My responsibilities have grown from working on small design projects to managing relatively complex international projects. The railways are truly fascinating on a global scale, from locomotive and wagon design, to civil works, signalling technologies, operations, and economics. SYSTRA Canada has allowed me to learn and work in all these domains allowing me to grow my career. SYSTRA Canada’s management saw in me what I did not know was there and gave me the tools and opportunities to develop and work on many projects. I also greatly appreciate the human relations that I have formed here, both at the company itself and with customers and suppliers from around the world. The people employed by SYSTRA Canada, both young and experienced, are what makes SYSTRA Canada a special place to work; it is here that I have truly formed some of the best relationships of my career.
If you are driven, self-motivated, want to see the world, are looking for a challenge, and want to work in an environmentally friendly and expanding industry, then SYSTRA Canada is for you.
JAMES MARKS, Eng.
Mechanical Engineer - Rolling Stock
Allow me to begin by saying that working as a consultant is great. As a consultant, we are exposed to a very wide variety of the aspects of engineering. My first task was to read and translate a specification. The second task was to help design a repair to be used on a fleet of nearly 600 cars. This included shop support and R&D for the company that hired us.
After this, I helped with Japanese clients trying to move into the North American market. The work involved structural engineering of a brand-new fleet of stainless steel bi-level cars. With these projects, and under the excellent guidance of senior members of the team, there was never a dull moment and my skill set improved drastically.
Working at SYSTRA Canada with a reputable and meticulous team allows me the freedom to diversify my skill sets and it always brings new and interesting challenges to the table.
Document Specialist, Business Development
Being part of SYSTRA Canada means being part of a big family. We work in a convivial environment, where respect and collaboration come first.
Right from the time I was hired, in March 2017, I was given the opportunity to work on major projects at many occasions, which allowed me to gain valuable experience and expertise. It is very motivating to have the flexibility to evolve in our day-to-day job by bringing ideas that can contribute to improving the quality of services offered to our clientele.
SYSTRA Canada is the ideal firm for anyone who is motivated and wants to promote excellence and innovation.
Mechanical Engineer - Rolling Stock
I started working at SYSTRA Canada as a trainee for a 4-month internship. At the end of my studies, I came back as a junior engineer. I found my place quickly as the work atmosphere is pleasant and I established friendly relationships with my colleagues.
As a junior engineer, I was mentored by my supervisor and my colleagues, who were always ready to share their knowledge and their experience. We also have rich and stimulating conversations.
I learnt a lot, and continue to learn every day about the railway industry, which is diversified and brings its share of daily challenges.
Responsible, Urban Transport - Transit
The Canadian market in the sector of mobility and passenger transportation is experiencing rapid growth, thus resulting in several interesting projects and opportunities. I like the fact that SYSTRA Canada positions itself as a benchmark engineering firm to offer innovative solutions to these mobility challenges. Beyond a comfortable working environment here, in Montreal, I particularly appreciate the freedom we have to undertake projects and express our ideas; I feel like my contribution at work makes a difference, and that is very rewarding.
The various expertise and experiences of the company, whether in Canada or worldwide, allow me to work daily with extremely talented people in their own field. I consequently learn a lot by interacting with them, not only on the technical side, but also on the way they do things and the way they act. Anyone who develops an appetite for knowledge and the transportation profession can easily find their place at SYSTRA Canada will certainly be able to develop their unique talent in this industry in full revolution.
