Coach Delivery for Rocky Mountaineer Marks Milestone in Canada

SYSTRA Canada recently delivered two coaches in line with its contract to refurbish 16 coaches of the prestigious Rocky Mountaineer’s GoldLeaf Service range.

SYSTRA Canada recently delivered two coaches in line with its contract to refurbish 16 coaches of the prestigious Rocky Mountaineer’s GoldLeaf Service range. This brings to nine the number of coaches refurbished as part of the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract that we signed with Rocky Mountaineer in 2013. The project operates in a cycle with new coaches being handed over for refurbishment in October of each year and then delivered in April the following year.

Since the 1990s, the Rocky Mountaineer tourist train has run between British Columbia and Alberta. Regularly voted the world’s leading luxury tourist train, the Rocky Mountaineer is the perfect way to explore the Rockies in total comfort. SYSTRA Canada is responsible for the delivery of the entire programme to revitalise Rocky Mountaineer’s fleet of 16 GoldLeaf bi-level dome cars. This includes all work required for renovating the coaches, as well as engineering and project management.

This project was the first EPC contract for SYSTRA Canada’s rolling stock division. The team has needed to constantly adapt to meet the requirements of the project, which has undergone numerous changes. In 2015 we implemented a programme to improve quality and reduce warranty claims. We also successfully switched major subcontractors between the 2015 and 2016 build years.

Speaking about this latest coach delivery, Chris Owen, project manager, commented: “We have worked with Rocky Mountaineer for many years as an engineering service provider. We have developed and maintained a very positive relationship with our client and this latest milestone reinforces that relationship. The project is governed by a very tight schedule and we look forward to meeting the challenge of delivering the next refurbished coaches on time for our client’s operating season.”
