BIM

BIM

It refers to a set of working methods, software solutions and multi-dimensional digital models comprising all project data designed to facilitate collaborative work and provide reliable interfaces between all participants of a project.

BIM (Building Information Modelling) is at the centre of the digital revolution of our sector. We want to become experts in this process to win market share.

At SYSTRA, BIM is managed by the Technical Directorate (DTE)—part of the Production Tools Development Department (PTD)—and encompasses areas of expertise including Computer-Aided Design (CAD), Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Digital Communications specific to projects.

Already over 250 employees at SYSTRA are using design software solutions (Autodesk and Bentley) and working with BIM. Obviously BIM is directly relevant to a specific team within the Technical Department, but nobody’s role in the company falls outside the scope of BIM, from modellers, managers and project managers to lawyers, HR, IT and more. The impact varies according to each department but it is important that everyone in the company understands the challenges and opportunities of BIM. By 2018, we must be able to present all our projects as ’BIM ready’.

To meet this target, we are relying on a network of BIM managers reporting to different entities and on BIM deployment leads whose role is to encourage the uptake of these new associated processes by all employees. The digital revolution we face should be seen as a boon. A chance to capitalise knowledge, foster the emergence of new talent, and gain a greater understanding of the challenges ahead: all benefits for us and our customers too!
